Customers often ask; How do you come up with your designs.
***Hunnelle: I don't design bags with the idea of making money. I actually design bags that I need to function a certain way or specific purpose, because I need it for my own use. Don't get me wrong, I like making money too but I truly enjoy the challenge of designing a bag for a certain purpose and perfecting that design.
To perfect a design, I have to use that bag for a few weeks in order to get to know... it and learn what works and what needs improvement. That process takes time and sometimes some designs take months to perfect. If I were just chasing the money, I fear my designs would lack that certain finished and attention to detail quality that many of my customers look for. Only thinking of the money aspect in design is boring to me, and frankly embarrassing. Customers know when a product is shoddy. I often incorporate pieces to my bags not just because they're decorative but because they also help with either function and/or durability to my designs. But I like to hide the mechanics of durability within the prettiness of my bags. Seeing the mechanics look unfinished to me. And I always try to find ways to hide them. This works against me at times with some customers. Sometimes a design comes out looking so effortless that when I tell customers it takes me 4-6 hours to make a travel bag, they are shocked. Most customers want it now! And when a customer doesn't understand the time and process of making good quality craftsmanship items, it is often a challenge to get bags shipped and out the door in a timeframe that customers are used to dealing with big companies that have their products massed produced with a large worker force and done quicker.
