...and truly comes from my heritage

I learned how to sew when I was 6 years old. I lived in the Philippines with my mother's family. I was fortunate enough to be exposed to the works of my talented aunt, who was the town seamstress. We lived in the same small town and I would walk to her house to play with her kids almost on a daily basis. While at her house, I would watch her take measurements of her customers. They would tell her a preference of how they want their outfits to look, certain collar, types of waistline, length of the dress. She would sketch out a design and about a week or two later, she would have finished products for them. It was a lot of fun to watch and from there, I got the bug of creativity using a sewing machine. My first works at 6 years old were creating pockets for all my skirts to keep my child self treasure finds like rocks, gum and candy wrappers, lucky I found centavos, flowers or maybe a guava I've picked off a tree for a snack when I got hungry.
I remember feeling so accomplished to have made those functional pockets! From that point on, I haven't stopped sewing and finally in my teens started playing around with designs  by cutting up and redesigning my old out of style clothes.
